Making a Supplement Routine You'll Actually Stick To

The best routine is the one you can actually follow. A supplement left in the cabinet does not do much, so a little planning goes a long way. Here are practical ways to build a routine that fits your life.

Keep it small

It is tempting to start with many products at once. A simpler approach is to begin with one, learn how it fits into your day, and add something else only if there is a reason. Fewer products also make it easier to notice how you feel and to explain your routine to a healthcare provider.

Attach it to an existing habit

Habits stick when they are linked to something you already do. Consider placing your supplements next to:

  • The coffee maker or kettle, for a morning routine
  • Your toothbrush, for an evening routine
  • The spot where you pack lunch or prepare dinner

A weekly pill organizer can also take the guesswork out of the day.

Think about timing with meals

Some supplements are generally taken with food, particularly products that contain fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) or ingredients that can feel heavy on an empty stomach. Others are fine at any time. Your label will usually give directions, so read it first. If the instructions are unclear, ask a pharmacist or healthcare provider.

Store supplements well

  • Keep them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. The bathroom is often not ideal.
  • Keep the cap tightly closed and leave any desiccant packet in the bottle.
  • Store them out of reach of children and pets.
  • Check the expiration or best-by date from time to time.

Be patient and consistent

Supplements are not designed to deliver quick, dramatic changes. Consistent use over a reasonable time, alongside balanced meals, movement, and sleep, is what a routine is built on. If you miss a day, simply carry on the next day rather than doubling up.

Do a quick check-in

Every so often, review what you are taking. Ask yourself:

  • Do I still have a reason for taking each product?
  • Am I following the label directions?
  • Have my diet, health, or medications changed?

Share your list with your healthcare provider at regular visits, because they can check for interactions and make sure it still suits you. If you would like to explore products that could fit a simple routine, our collection is there whenever you need it.
